Below is a sample email to send to city council members. You can write something similar, borrowing information from this letter. The website provides plenty of other useful information, too.
Suggested email subject: Cape Resident opposed to Redfish Pointe development at Piney Point
Dear Cape Coral City Council Members,
I am a Cape Coral resident and strongly oppose the proposed Redfish Pointe development in the wetlands directly south of Rotary Park.
These wetlands, including mangroves, provide the city with significant storm protection and flood control. Many residents are still recovering from Hurricane Ian, and a recent study identifies Cape Coral among the nine cities in the nation most at risk from future storms. Compromising the city’s natural protection and raising the storm risk to residents makes no sense.
This area is also a haven for wildlife, including threatened species, such as bald eagles, manatees, and sawfish, but coyotes, bobcats, racoons, foxes, gopher tortoises and migratory and non-migratory birds live there, too, and Cape Coral residents treasure our city’s wildlife and the city’s natural heritage, in general. This project would negatively impact what we value so highly.
It is no wonder that a city department manager has stated that “This project seems inconsistent with the City’s conservation and coastal management goals, objectives, and policies.”
Current zoning wisely calls for this land to be preserved. I urge you to maintain current zoning and reject this development.
Thank you,
John Smith
